What method do calculators and computers use to determine a regression line for a data set?

I cant understand how to figure this out on my calculator. and I just wanted to know the possible methods to determining a regression line of calculators and computers. I also wonder what are the advantages to using these possible methods?

    ordinary least squares unless stated otherwise
